Central Library on Townley Road, the community libraries, how to join for free, and where to check the Post Office branches near you.
Which libraries serve Bexleyheath?
Bexley has twelve libraries. According to the council, six are council libraries (Central Library, Crayford, Erith, Sidcup, Thamesmead and Welling) and six are community managed libraries (Bexley Village, Blackfen, Bostall, North Heath, Slade Green and Howbury, and Upper Belvedere). The list is on the council's libraries page.
For Bexleyheath that means Central Library, on Townley Road, DA6 7HJ. The council's care services directory lists it as having a range of books and talking books, local information, free internet access, free Wi-Fi (a library card is needed), wheelchair access and a Home Library service for housebound people. It gives the library's phone number as 020 8303 7777. For Bexley village, the nearest listed library is Bexley Village Community Library. We could not confirm a library listed under the name Barnehurst or Upton on the council's pages, so use the council's list if you are in those areas.
What are the opening hours?
Opening hours are published on the borough's library site rather than on the council's page, and they can differ between the council libraries and the community managed ones. We do not repeat them here. Check the hours for your branch on the Bexley libraries website before you travel.
How do I join?
Membership is free and open to anyone. The council says you can join and borrow from any Bexley library, and you do not have to live in the borough.
What else do libraries offer?
The council lists home delivery of books for people who cannot visit, digital library access 24 hours a day, meeting rooms and IT suites for hire, free public computers with Wi-Fi, and social programmes and community events. Council tax can also be paid with a debit card at some libraries; see our council tax guide.
Where are the Post Offices?
Post Office Ltd publishes every branch on its branch finder. Branch listings it shows for the area include a Bexleyheath branch at 89 The Broadway, DA6 7JN, a Broadway branch at 323 to 325 Broadway, Bexleyheath, DA6 8DT, and a Bexley branch at 26 Bexley High Street, DA5 1AD. Opening hours and the services each branch offers, such as banking, parcels or passport check and send, are set by each branch and change, so check the individual Bexleyheath and Bexley branch pages for the current position. We did not find a Barnehurst branch in the listings we checked, so confirm with the branch finder.
