GP Surgeries in Bexleyheath, Barnehurst and Bexley Village: How to Register
The GP practices NHS South East London lists for the Bexleyheath, Barnehurst and Bexley village areas, and what you need to register with one.
Bexleyheath, Barnehurst and Bexley village sit in the NHS South East London Integrated Care Board (ICB) area. The ICB says the borough has 21 GP practices, and its Bexley area page gives that figure. This guide lists the practices the ICB names for the areas we cover and explains registration. It is a directory of where to look, not a recommendation: we do not rate or compare surgeries.
Which GP practices are near Bexleyheath?
The ICB's GP page for Bexley lists, in the Bexleyheath area:
- Dr Davies & Partner, 55 Littleheath Road, DA7 5HL
- The Albion Surgery, 6 Pincott Road, DA6 7LP
- Bexley Medical Group, 171 King Harolds Way, DA7 5RF
- The Westwood Surgery, 24 Westwood Lane, DA16 2HE
- Welling Medical Practice, 2 Danson Crescent, DA16 2AT
The last two have Welling (DA16) postcodes, although the ICB groups them under Bexleyheath.
For Barnehurst, the ICB lists Lyndhurst Road Medical Centre, 41 Lyndhurst Road, DA7 6DL. For Bexley village, it lists Plas Meddyg Surgery, 40 Parkhill Road, Frognal, DA5 1HU. The ICB's list is the one it publishes, so there may be other practices that serve your postcode. To see every surgery near your home, use the NHS find a GP tool, which searches by postcode.
How do I register?
The NHS says you only need to give basic information, your name, date of birth and address. You do not have to show ID, proof of address or immigration status, and having an NHS number helps but is not required. You can register in several ways, as set out on the NHS registration page:
- online, by choosing a surgery that offers online registration and completing a form (the NHS says it takes about 15 minutes per person)
- by filling in a paper form at the surgery, or a downloaded form you take in
- using the surgery's own website form, where there is one
The NHS says you should be told when you are registered, usually within five days of the surgery receiving your details, though it may take longer.
Can I switch surgery through the NHS App?
Yes. If you are already registered with a GP, the NHS says you can use the NHS App to change surgeries, and it asks your permission to share your details with the new practice.
Can I register with a surgery near work instead of near home?
The NHS says you can register permanently outside your local area if the surgery accepts out-of-area patients. It warns this may affect the services you can use, including home visits and urgent care from your GP. Check with the surgery before registering.
What if I need care quickly and cannot get a GP appointment?
Pharmacies can treat several common conditions without a GP appointment, and there are urgent treatment centres for conditions that cannot wait. See our guides to late and Sunday pharmacies and urgent care and A&E.
